Manager of Environmental Health & Safety (6/27/08)
This is Mary Fisher, and I am a recruiter that specializes in placing Occupational Health and Environmental Health and Safety professionals. I am working with a $9 billion manufacturing company - the largest in their industry niche - that is looking for a Manager of Environmental Health and Safety for one of their manufacturing facilities in Upstate New York.
This facility has about 600 employees, most of whom are union members. The challenge for this new Safety Manager is to break the cycle of "we've always done it this way," to "safety is job one."
As a result, they are looking for someone who not only knows all the EPA, OSHA and DOT rules, but also for someone who has the leadership skills to adjusting their workers' thinking. Changing from a reactive environment to a proactive environment won't be easy for this facility, so this new manager must have the technical knowledge and the interpersonal skills to do this, as quickly as possible, without alienating the population he or she is trying to change.
I can tell you this facility is located in one of the most beautiful areas in upstate New York, within an hour's drive from Rochester, Syracuse or Ithaca. The company is willing to provide relocation assistance. They provide an excellent base salary, world class benefits, a pension and 401K program. Overall, the company has over 40,000 employees worldwide.
