Help the Tarheel Chapter get Recognized!

Attention ASSE Members:

It is time for the Tarheel Chapter to submit our Chapter Stars recognition to Society, but I need your help! Please email Heidi Hatcher at hdhatcher@yahoo.com if you have completed any of the below items:

  1. A chapter member belongs to a National/State legislative affairs committee related to safety, health and environment and attends at least three (3) meetings.

  2. One or more technical articles from Chapter members are submitted to Professional Safety for publication.

  3. One or more technical articles from Chapter members are submitted for publication in a non-Society safety, health, or environmental publication.

  4. A Chapter member belongs to a National/State legislative affairs committee related to safety, health and environment and attends at least three (3) meetings.

The Chapter Stars Recognition Program (CSRP) is intended to recognize Chapters that give their members superior service by providing quality programs designed to advance the professional growth of their members, support the mission and vision of ASSE and make a positive impact on the people, property and environment in their community. The program also serves as a comprehensive strategic plan and model for the chapter. The awards currently given under the CSRP are the Chapter Stars Recognition Award (CSRA) and the American Society of Safety Engineers Chapter of the Year award. Both awards are based on activities of the Chapter during each Chapter year (July 1 to June 30) captured through the Chapter Stars Recognition Program process.

August 4, 2008 Meeting Location Change

Our August 4th meeting location is being changed to the NCDOL OSHA office at 901 Blairhill Rd., Suite 200, Charlotte, NC, 28217. We will have to order out for this lunch due to there being no restaurant facilities in this building. Our thoughts are to order in some pizzas. We would appreciate if you would please RSVP to either Bob Kastenhuber or Jeff Noel by no later than July 31st so we know the number of pizzas to pre-order. Directions to the OSHA office are given below. Tell the receptionist that you are here for the ASSE meeting and she will direct you to the meeting room. Our meeting time will remain the same (11:30 am-1:00 pm) and the cost will be $15.  We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting.

Directions: The OSHA office is off Exit 7 [Clanton] on I-77.  You go west on Clanton Rd. to the 1st stoplight which is Barringer.  Take a left on Barringer and then the 1st left onto Blairhill Rd.  Once you take a left onto Blairhill you'll take an immediate right into the parking lot.  The OSHA office is situated next to the Sherwin Williams paint store which is on the end of the building as you turn into the parking lot. There is a big sign above the office say NC Dept. of Labor.

Parking: Parking in the front can be limited sometimes, so if there isn't enough parking in front, there is plenty of parking in the back.  Attendees will just have to walk around to the front to be let in.

Habitat for Humanity 2008 Project Announcement

Due to our success in 2006 with our Habitat for Humanity Project, we are elated to announce that we will once again partner with Habitat for Humanity to enhance and elevate their volunteers knowledge of safety and use of personal protective equipment. This gives us another chance to give back to the community that supports us.

In March, 2008 we will begin collecting donations from local companies and ASSE Tarheel Members to deliver to the local Habitat for Humanity. We will be collecting items such as gloves, safety glasses, ear plugs, hard hats, first aid kits, and donations. You don't have to wait until March though, if you'd like to donate before then, please contact us at tarheel.asse@gmail.com.

In addition to collecting PPE at our meetings, we will also be collecting PPE donations at the Charlotte Regional Safety and Health School on April 25 and 26, 2008. Our donations will be dispersed to Mecklenburg, Gaston, and York County Habitat for Humanity Offices.

Volunteers Needed

We are looking for volunteers who are interested in holding an elected position or would like to participate on one or two projects. We will be accepting candidates for the following positions beginning in March, for elections to be held in June. The elected positions are Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, and President. We also have Honors and Awards, Newsletter Editor, and Website Editor available. Special projects consist of:

If interested, please contact one of your elected officers.
